How could I not be intrigued. There are readers that will object to the overtly dominating actions of the Alpha male protagonist.and with good reason: he acts out the genetic coding of the animal within. If for no other reason, anyone interested in the series should read this book. :) Bottom line, it was the concept and her world building that kept me interested enough to purchase every Breed book in the series, now numbering 15 novels and 5 anthologies. But I was left with the feeling that the intimate scenes were there to keep the reader engaged while the over-arching plotline for the Breed concept (DNA manipulation) is presented.
This was not the first Breed book I read, having started the series some 4 books later. A quick read about the behavioral characteristics of large cats and Feline Pride interactions will explain much of what occurs, in and out of bed. Lora Leigh combines in this series three of my pet interests: genetics, animal behaviors, and SciFi. For that reason I don't give it a top grade as I know now that with each successive book in this series, the writing gets better, the editing more precise, the characters more layered, the plotlines more complex.
Or maybe, being at heart an avid SciFi fan, it's because I find those scenes to become oh-hum rather quickly. In that respect I give Lora Leigh an "A" for her biological background study of the animals about she weaves her tale.I await impatiently for book #16 due out in April 2010. And while each book is a stand-alone tale, the over-arching plotline that binds this series together starts with this first story. Lora Leigh has a reputation for erotic writings, and she certainly delivers in this one.
As long as Ms. They just want to have sex but Merinus tries to resisit. All his life he'd been trained as a weapon. Sometimes Kane and Sherra as they are set-up for their own story. He could not help but let her see him and heard her nearly faint from watching him. Somehow Merinus worked her way under his skin. Because he doesn't want the Council using her too. Merinus and her 7 brothers [including Alpha brother Kane:] are on a mission.
Of course there are moments of give and take. I love how the mating heat is first described in TTB. It is truly heartbreaking to see Merinus falling for him and Callan not wanting her to. The background to Callan's history really reveals the kind of man he is. Tempting the Beast is the debut in this voluminous series. Merius has developed feelings that go beyond curious for a certain Callan Lyons. She goes out to get information and gets an eyeful, of him, in all his naked, hard glory. Even when Lora Leigh writes erotic romance I love watching how involved her characters become in the sex act and the romance.
She doesn't know this man and doesn't love him. It is like a cat in heat. It's nice seeing how all begins. I think I could either like or love every book in this series.
It's drenched in plenty of sex, which I don't mind because they are part animal. Leigh continues to further the Breeds world and expand what is it they want out of their lives and mates. What I love about this series, so far, is Lora Leigh has made each story just different enough to progress the Breeds and keep it entertaining. Callan knew Merinus would be trouble but she was hard to resist.
She hates the idea of him 'using her for a chemical release'. Still there is only a glimpse because this is only Merinus and Callan's POV. Then he broke out of the labs rescuing his Pride and wanted to stay away from prying eyes. I read 2 other Breed books before this one.
Time to read the next one, so i can get lost again. I got lost in the book and didn't want to found. Oh my, if you don't blush easily and you love a HOT, HOT, HOT romance, then this is the books for you. I loved it.
The book is great and I love the author's writing. I started reading the series in the middle and wanted to know more; however, I couldn't find the book commercially and went looking at Amazon.
Just as fantastic as every other one I've read. We finally decided we had to see how it began, and Lora Leigh did NOT disappoint. I had began the Breed books somewhere in the middle. I've gotten my sister-n-law and mother-in-law to reading these as well.
